George Andrew Appel

George Appel, treasurer for the Derik Whiting Foundation, passed away unexpectedly on December 13, 2010.

Friends may call at the Haskett Funeral Home, 370 William Street, 1 west of Main, Exeter on Saturday, December 18th from 9:30 – 10:30 AM, where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM with the Rev’d Grayhame Bowcott officiating.  Interment Exeter Cemetery.

Donations to the Derik Whiting Foundation, South Huron Hospital Foundation or Brentwood Recovery Home would be appreciated by the family.

George was an active and valued member of the Foundation. George was part of the original few who started with an idea to help youth at risk and grew with that few into the Derik Whiting Foundation. Whenever possible he would attend an event to sell tickets, root for racers and even supervise Larry as he tended to the repairs of the Foundation's mini truck. George's opinions were respected and were often sought as he wouldn't form his opinion until he thought through the consequences. His humour was also quite infectious and we could count on George to insert his humour at an appropriate time to relieve tension and get us back on track.

George, you will be dearly missed by the many people you have touched. May your continued journey be as enriched as we have been for having met and known you.

All jobs need a good supervisor!
